Our programs complement the BC social studies and science curriculum. Trained education volunteers lead small groups of students through hands-on and participatory activities designed to stimulate creative and critical thinking.

Most programs involve some physical activities and some programs are partially conducted outside (rain or shine). If you will be going aboard St. Roch, soft, rubber-soled shoes are mandatory (no flip-flops) because students will be climbing ladders. Please tell students to dress appropriately for the weather. The Vancouver Maritime Museum is located on the waters of English Bay, the weather here is almost always cooler, windier and wetter than inland locations. Students should dress in warm clothes and have a rain/waterproof jacket available (layers are great) and be wearing soft, rubber-soled shoes or boots.
Unfortunately, because of space limitations the museum may not be able to provide an indoor space for lunch. Please make us aware that you would like the option of a space to eat lunch. Most groups will lunch outdoors in the park or at the beach. In extreme weather conditions and if space is available, classes may be allowed to have a quick lunch in the lobby area.
Guided programs do not include time for breaks. If your travel time to the Maritime Museum is long, please allow time for a break before your program. Please let us know if you would like time for a snack or washroom break when you book your program.
Self-guided visits and some guided school programs include time aboard St. Roch. Please as us if your program will be going aboard St. Roch when you book your program. If your program does not include time aboard St. Roch, a self-guided visit can be arranged before or after your program for an additional fee. Please inquire when booking your program.
No. Visits to the Museum's galleries must be pre-booked for an additional fee. Please inquire when booking your program.
Guided school programs include all the supplies necessary for the program. For self guided visits, we will send you a master copy of our self guided gallery activity sheets. Please bring enough copies and pencils for your students.
We allow one adult free with every four children booked. Parent helpers provide invaluable assistance during the visit. They accompany children to the washrooms, assist with monitoring safety while in the building or on the dock and assist with the distribution and collection of program supplies.
Free parking is provided. Upon arrival, group leaders must come into the Museum for parking passes.
We ask that your group arrive at the Museum fifteen minutes before your program scheduled start time. If you are late we will try our best to accommodate your group. Late arrival could result in the cancellation of your program.
Museum policy allows for groups to cancel up to two weeks in advance of the scheduled booking without penalty. If groups cancel within the two-week policy they will be billed for the full amount of their booking.
For the safety and comfort of all participants, please note that class sizes must be adhered to. Elementary class maximum is 30 students; preschool class maximum is 20 students; all programs have a ten student minimum.
