Centennial Pole Temporary Stabilization Work

Temporary stabilization work has started on the Kwakwaka'wakw Centennial Pole by Mungo Martin, located south of the Maritime Museum.

A structural assessment of the Centennial Pole indicated that, while the pole is generally in good condition there are some localized areas of deterioration. We have been told that restoration work may be possible to do on the pole in situ, but it is necessary to put up temporary stabilization to ensure public safety and the security of the pole. The stabilization work has been designed specifically to emphasize protection and retention of the historic timber and paint surface, and so does not require fastening or boring into the pole.

We will update you on the progress of this work when we get more information.
