Because of the ivory in the octant, this is one artifact that has to be hand delivered!
Today our Curator is off to Anchorage Museum, delivering an octant (circa 1800s) from our collection to be featured in their exhibit Arctic Ambitions: Captain Cook and the Northwest Passage.
The octant is being transported in a stepped keystone octant case, and needed to be hand delivered due to the rules and regulations that surround the transportation of ivory.
The exhibit will then be traveling to Washington State History Museum, on display October 16, 2015 - March 6, 2016.
If you can't make it to Anchorage, why not pick up a copy of Arctic Ambitions, the book written to compliment the exhibit, from our gift shop!
